CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY
extension
Navaco believes it has the responsibility to help uplift and develop local communities. As a minimum it has made a commitment to return ten percent of its net profit to this cause. The initial support will be to its employees and the communities they are connected to. On a broader level, the company will look to develop the local communities from whom it sources its raw materials.
The company has an extension service that is responsible for implementing Ecocert certification for Organic Producers, through training and resourcing its out growers. This service is also responsible for yield assessments, quality control and raw material collections ensuring that the factory receives the best possible product for processing. Currently, we have over one thousand out growers registered for this certification in Honde Valley, and a second grower group will undergo certification in 2024 in Chimanimani and Chipinge.
As part of an ongoing program to increase yield and the quality of the Organic product it will source from its out growers, the company is annually giving its out growers free avocado seedlings to plant in their villages.
nursery
As part of Navaco’s social responsibility, it will develop its nursery operation to supply 5000 free seedlings a year, of the market preferred varieties, that suit local conditions. The first seedlings will go out this year, 2024, to the 1000 plus registered out growers on its books.
